About Us

Autism Community Alliance is a Washington DC metro area nonprofit that was founded by parents of young adults with autism who are passionate about offering families specialized post secondary options for the neurodivergent population who needs more supports to help them thrive and expand their interests.  We are unique in that we take into account each individuals sensory needs and adjust, pivot the activities as needed to accommodate everyone.  Community engagement is integral to our mission and our group is out in the community every day.  The days activities are shared with campers and their families in advance to help them prepare.  Families are encouraged to share advice and suggestions on activities or locations to visit!  Every day is full of laughter and we pride ourselves on practicing “enjoying the process” even if our art project or cooking activity doesn’t turn out perfect!

Cyndi Newton is ACA’s Program Manager. She is responsible for creating and sharing the daily agenda for each program day with both campers and their families. Cyndi incorporates visual tools and YouTube videos to demonstrate each afternoon’s activities, ensuring that all participants have a clear understanding of the plans. She also plays a key role in implementing activities that promote community engagement, including shopping for activity supplies, daily community walks, visiting nearby museums, shopping malls, parks, libraries, and community centers. As a parent of a young adult with autism, Cyndi brings a deep understanding of the unique milestones and experiences families face. Her warm heart and sense of humor have made her a valuable addition to ACA. Cyndi has seamlessly taken on her responsibilities and looks forward to expanding her role as ACA continues to grow.
